The Japanese government told the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Friday that it was ready to take retaliatory measures against the United States to impose tariffs on its steel and aluminum products. This changed its earlier stance of easing its close allies.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the Japanese government has informed WTO that it has the right to impose tariffs on American goods worth 50 billion yen (about $451 million), which is equivalent to the amount of tariff imposed by the United States on Japanese metal products.
According to the Japanese news agency 18 reported, Japanese economic industry minister Yoko Hiroshige at the press conference on the same day stressed that "under the framework of WTO, is concentrating on the necessary measures to deal with."
According to Agence France-Presse 18, the European Union (Agence France-Presse) announced on Friday that the World Trade Organization (the World Trade Organization) is ready to retaliate against the US tariffs on steel and aluminum products, including taxes on motorcycles and Bourbon.
