The World Trade Organization (WTO) document showed on Friday that India and the European Union have submitted to WTO a list of American products that could be added to high tariffs to retaliate US President Trump's tax on imported steel and aluminum products.
The EU says U.S. steel tariffs will cause losses of $1 billion 500 million, and aluminum tariffs will cause further losses of $100 million, and American goods such as rice, cranberries, bourbon, corn, peanut butter and steel products may be the target of retaliation.
India said the country is facing an additional US $3100 and $134 million tariffs on aluminum and steel products, while U.S. exports such as soya oil, palmolein and cashew are potential targets for retaliatory tariffs.
A trade official said that the list of retaliatory tariffs is like "putting guns into guns", making clear to American exporters that the pain may be coming.
India said its tariff measures would take effect before June 21st unless the United States abolished its tariff measures.
The EU says some retaliatory measures may begin in June 20th.
