Police said that a driver drove a TSLA.O Model S car on Tuesday and ran into a police car parked on Laguna Beach in California. It was fortunate that no one was on the car; the driver was right. Investigators said that at the time of the incident, Tesla Motors was in the "autopilot" mode.
Jim Cota, the captain of Laguna Beach Police, said that the driver was only slightly injured. The photo of the car accident posted by him showed that the front of the Tesla car and the rear of the police car were seriously damaged.
Tesla's automatic driving mode is a semi-autonomous driving technology, and the company says it is a more advanced cruise control technology.
"Tesla has made it clear that autopilot does not guarantee that the car will not be accidental," the company said in a statement following the accident. Tesla could not immediately confirm that the car was really in automatic driving mode as the driver said.
Tesla Motors has suffered several car accidents and fire incidents this year, making the chief executive, Musk, who has always been proud of his top-ranking car safety in the industry, has been struggling with his brains.
