Qualcomm (QCOM.O) and Tencent (0700.HK) said on Monday that they would cooperate in hand games and 5G and build 5G version game phones supported by Tencent.
Qualcomm is the largest supplier of chips for many Android phones, with a market value of about $453 billion. Tencent is China's largest mobile software company, with Weixin, a nearly ubiquitous social networking software.
According to the agreement, future Tencent games could be "optimized" for Android phones using Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite chips, the two companies said in a statement.
The two sides have already cooperated on mobile games. Earlier this month, Tencent joined forces with Taiwan's Asus (2357.TW) gaming equipment division, Player Republic, to launch a game mobile phone using Qualcomm chips.
Tencent and Qualcomm also plan to jointly develop 5G version game mobile phones, which will help support Tencent's streaming Game Service plan.
Meng Pu, chairman of Qualcomm China, said that as one of the important applications of 5G, hand-swimming will soon take advantage of the benefits of a new generation of links.
He believes that faster speed, wider bandwidth and ultra-low latency at the leading level will provide a real-time, multi-player, immersive gaming experience.
