According to data released by Canalys, a market research company, Huawei's leading edge in China's smartphone market share continued to expand in the second quarter, with the market share rising to 38%, while the share of other major brands declined.
According to Canalys, Huawei shipped 37.3 million smartphones in China in the second quarter, up 31% year-on-year, while its market share rose by more than 10 percentage points from 27.6% in the same period last year. Huawei was blacklisted by the United States in mid-May.
Canalys said Huawei shipped 64% of its smartphones in China in the second quarter, equivalent to the company's global shipments in the second quarter.
According to Canalys, shipments in China's smartphone market fell 6% in the second quarter to 97.6 million units, the ninth consecutive quarter of decline. China is the world's largest smartphone market.
The top four mobile phone suppliers after Huawei are Oppo, Vivo, Millet (1810.HK) and Apple (AAPL.O). Their shipments and market share declined in the second quarter.
Mo Jia, an analyst at Canalys, said that Huawei's inclusion in the U.S. entity list in May "led to uncertainty in overseas markets", but since then Huawei has shifted its focus back to the domestic market and actively invested in offline expansion to attract consumers from competitors.
