CBC predicted Monday, after a nationwide vote, that the ruling Liberal Party led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would form a minority government.
As of around 10:30 p.m. EDT (0230 GMT on Tuesday), the CBC said that of the 304 constituencies where the results had been announced, the Liberal Party had led or won in 146 constituencies. Trudeau needs to win 170 seats to form a second majority government.
If the government holds a minority of 338 seats in the house of Representatives, Trudeau's position will be weakened, and the support of the opposition on the left will be needed to promote the passage of key legislation.
