A senior Japanese official said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told South Korean Prime Minister Lee Luoyuan on Thursday that a ruling of the South Korean court last year "fundamentally subverted the basis of Japan South Korea relations."
At a press conference, Japanese deputy chief cabinet secretary Naoki Okada pointed out that Shinzo Abe also told Li Luoyuan that the Supreme Court of South Korea forced some Japanese companies to compensate Koreans who were forced to work in mines and factories during the war in October last year, which was in violation of international law.
Since the dispute, the meeting between Shinzo Abe and Li Luoyuan in Tokyo has been the highest level of talks between the two countries; the dispute has brought relations between Japan and South Korea to the lowest point in decades.
