The United States said Monday it would no longer exempt sanctions against Iran's fordow nuclear facilities. Previously, the underground nuclear facility resumed uranium enrichment activities.
"For [Iran], the world's largest terrorist financing country, the correct amount of uranium enrichment is zero... Iran has no legitimate reason to resume uranium enrichment at a previously secret nuclear facility," US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo told Reuters.
Iran is enriching uranium at its underground nuclear facility in fordow and accelerating it on a wider scale, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported this month. A report released by the IAEA on Monday showed that Iran had once again violated its nuclear agreement, accumulating just over 130 tons of heavy water.
Despite European efforts to save the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran's approach has deviated more and more from the deal since the US withdrew from it last year.
According to the Iran nuclear agreement, Iran needs to restrict uranium enrichment activities in exchange for the lifting of most of the sanctions by the international community. The agreement also calls for the transformation of Frodo into a nuclear, physical and technological center.
